blurry | 26 Fridays

It’s time for my 26 Friday post. Every other week a group of photographers and I post images based on a theme. This week’s theme is blurry/out of focus. I had a hard time with this one. I’m so accustomed to working hard for a sharp focus so it was a stretch for me to try to produce blurry images. These images are from my third try and I ended up really loving them. And my kids loved jumping on the bed.

These next two are in focus but I loved them so I couldn’t leave them out. I think this one will go in a frame near my bed. I just love these two.

This one I titled “my view” because she’s usually right under me.

I’ve been reminded of how little I post of my own two so here they are. I’m attempting to take one good shot a week of them this year. Doesn’t sound too hard but can be a little overwhelming. I’ve decided not to put too too much pressure on myself. Some weeks you’ll see them. These were taken last week. they are my world.

Our boy calls weekend days “stay at home” days. It feels like we’re rarely at home though. We’re heading to Houston or we’re going to birthday parties. This particular weekend we were home and the day started with the boy asked what we were going to do. Our cars really needed washing so we decided that would be a great family activity. I also learned my girl (at not quite 2) can pedal her trike! Child development never ceases to amaze me.

After the carwash and a nap for the girl, we went over to our friends’ Matt and Nancy’s for dinner. My kids adore these two and their sweet pups, Coco and Trooper.

My parents have a garden in their backyard in Mississippi. They live on a pine tree farm so the garden is pretty big. We visit every summer in hopes of a bountiful garden. Last year the boy helped shuck corn. The rains have been stingy in Mississippi this year so the garden looked a little dead. The boy and the girl enjoyed picking tomatoes and I’m so glad they get to have this type of experience in the summers.

My ten on ten this month is a little different. Since it’s a personal project I took a different slant and captured ten images in ten minutes with my girl. These are not images I’d normally print or post here but I love these real life moments with her. She was snacking and got her first taste of Nutella. She is so proud to stand in her big brother’s chair to eat and this day was very attached to an old cell phone in our toy box. This set is just so her at this time. She’s so playful and spunky. My boy sitting down to dinner yesterday. He was a little under the weather but was still himself all day long. A day filled with baseball movies and begging to go outside to play catch. A day filled with telling him he could not have cheese or milk (he had a little stomach trouble). A day filled with a sweet boy wanting to cuddle. I love this kid. He asks a million questions a day and is ever curious. He never meets a stranger. He loves everyone. He has more energy than anyone else I know and he’s all mine for now. He’s growing up too quickly and I know one day I’ll look back at these days and wish I could go back just once to spend the day with him. I love you my boy!

It’s almost always a struggle for me to capture my own kids. Occasionally I get the shot I’m dreaming about but not often. They know all my tricks and are honestly a little over it. Even my girl. So this weekend when I wanted to do some bluebonnets pictures I called my friends Nancy and Matt and asked her to come along with her dogs, her friend from out of town, and her friend’s cute daughter. Finely and my boy became fast friends and spent most of the weekend together. Thanks Nancy and Matt! :) My girl also adores Nancy’s dogs, especially CoCo. And who could ask for more photogenic dogs.

This weekend we went to Houston for a little spring break. My kids love visiting their grandparents and aunt and uncle who live outside of Houston in Fulshear. Aunt Ti and Uncle Joe have a pool and Saturday it was warm enough (with a little help from the heating of the pool) to go for a swim. My girl wasn’t too sure at first but quickly warmed up and had a blast. The boy always has fun swimming and he’s getting better and better at it. He’s taking lessons right now and it’s so encouraging to see him swim on his own.
