These two are my loves. My heart swells when I think of them and know these moments are fleeting. I think about them constantly and hope I’m doing my best by them. I thought I’d share a few shots we took in Mississippi. There are more of my girl than my boy because the boy was too excited to go back and play with his cousins.

I always have such big plans to photograph my kids and we all know how the best laid plans go sometimes. This Halloween was no exception. I was so excited because my girl was dressing up this year and I was going to be able to take her to a few houses until my husband got sick. Yikes! I had to do Halloween all. by. myself with two kids! This is a testament to how amazing my husband is and a reminder that I don’t know how single parents do it. I got a few snaps of my kids before the festivities began but nothing like I had planned. Hopefully next year will be different.

It’s been a rough two weeks for my family. The stomach bug has hit us and it has hit us hard. So on the 10th, I was less than ready to complete my 10 on 10 post. I hope you’ll forgive the delay. I shot for this post on the first day of our ordeal. My girl was sent home from her school. I didn’t really think she was that sick, so we spent most of the day playing. She was in great spirits so it surprised me later in the day when I realized she had the stomach bug. Poor girl. Only my husband was spared the sick.

This week I got the camera out before I fed my girl. She’s been giving me the best gummy smiles but it’s so hard to capture them on camera. I have to be quick. She already knows all my tricks and it proves difficult to get her attention. This day I caught some cute ones and was so happy to catch the top middle one. Her two bottom teeth are on their way in and I’m a little sad. I just love her toothless baby smile.

Spring is our theme for this week’s 52 Friday post and spring has arrived in Texas. It means longer days, flowers blooming, and my boy going barefoot. Spring is one of my favorite seasons. It’s welcomes beautiful weather with lots of outside time playing which is wonderful for an energetic four year old.

I’m thrilled to share with you a new project I’m working on this year. I’m part of a photography forum called Bloom. Several groups have popped up in which several photographers will post an image weekly on a certain theme that changes each week. I recently joined one of these groups and we are starting our project this week. Every Friday you can check back to see how I interpret the theme and then follow the links to the other photographers in my group and see how they interpret the theme. This week’s theme is “good night.”

A little about this image. This is my boy’s bear bear. He loves bear bear and sleeps with him every night. Bear bear is suffering from a little too much love lately and I thought I should document this sweet time in my boy’s life.

the boy and the ukulele | Austin Child Photographer

This is my boy. I think I captured his spirit here but it took a lot! He’s not the easiest of subjects for me lately. He a sweet kid but he hates having his picture taken. I begged and pleaded and maybe threatened just a bit but then I bribed. Bribing is the easiest way for him to cooperate with me. He got a popsicle after this was over. But he had fun being out there with me and his dad and it only lasted about 20 minutes. I grabbed this ukulele because the boy loves music. He loves to sing and “play” instruments. Turns out a good prop will go a long way.

It’s been a long time since my last post and a lot has happened! Mainly we have a new baby girl born in August! She and her older brother have been filling my time. (If anyone has tips on parenting a 3 year old and newborn at the same time I’ll all ears!)

I am again accepting clients and sessions. I have a Holiday mini-session plan in the work and am almost finished with the holiday cards. Stay tuned for both of these.
