I love shooting in people’s homes and where they live their lives.  I must confess I’m always a little nervous because I don’t know quite what I’m getting into in terms of light.  When this family told me they had great light in their home I was glad but when I got there I was floored.  Their living room was floor to ceiling windows!  A dream home for me.  🙂  I loved, loved, loved that when I shot on their front porch light was streaming from the back of their home through their front door.  Plus they are absolutely gorgeous, fun, and the sweetest family.  Grandma and grandpa even joined in for a bit.  I really do have the best clients!!

  • beautiful! that is great light!

When we lived in Houston, we attended an incredible church, Covenant Church.  It’s an open, loving, life affirming community.  We made some incredible friends there.  I met Eric and his family there.  When Eric’s mom, Fran, called me about six months ago and asked if I would photograph Eric and Zeba’s wedding I put up a protest.  I told Zeba and Eric I did not shoot weddings, that I’ve never shot a wedding, that I focus on natural light photography, and gave them several recommendations of other photographers in the Houston area.  Well lucky for me they insisted they wanted me to photograph their wedding.  When asking them what I should focus on, Zeba told me she wanted the day captured and the people.  I ended up loving the experience and I’m 99% sure it’s because of Eric, Zeba, and their incredible family and friends.  It was a day full of love and excitement.  Thanks so much Zeba and Eric for allowing me to capture this momentous day!

Thanks to Erin Smith for second shooting for me and capturing this cool shot!

For the record, I don’t shoot weddings!  😉

Oh, but you should! You did an awesome job my friend!!

I never know exactly what to expect when shooting newborns.  The day I was to photograph H and his family a cold front blew in and it was so cloudy.  I was a little bummed because I love it when the light streams in through the windows.  H is a tiny baby and was having a little trouble nursing so he was a little fussy.  We called it a day after a few hours and I came back a few days later.  Little H still gave me a run for my money but is the sweetest baby.  His family is pretty incredible too.  Big sister C and I chatted about her favorite things including hunting with her Daddy.  They are such a warm, loving family and I had such a great time getting to know them.

Before we lived in Austin and before we lived in Houston, I was in graduate school at Baylor University in Waco, TX.  I obtained a Master of Social Work there and now I’m a social worker in addition to being a photographer.  I feel like I got my start at the Advocacy Center for Crime Victims and Children.  It was my very first job after graduate school.  I was mentored there and really found my passion for working with children and their families.  So a while back a friend who worked there when I did asked on Facebook for donations to their silent auction I eagerly said yes.  I wasn’t exactly sure how it would work out since I live in Austin and Waco is an hour away.  But it did work out and I was able to meet up with this lovely family last weekend.  We met in Georgetown and had a blast.  Thanks G family for making the drive!

Casey and Tim contacted me about doing a session for them last weekend and I jumped at the chance.  I know Casey and Tim from our Houston days and could not wait to meet their little girl.  Isn’t she the cutest!  Since they were only in town for the weekend we didn’t want to reschedule due to the cold front.  It was chilly but they were such troopers.  This little family was so fun to be with and watch. Their love and warmth for each other just oozes from them and I would have gladly photographed them all day.

This weekend I spent time with this amazing family and their new baby boy.  I love spending time with this family.  They are so fun, easy going, and seem to have seamlessly incorporated kid #3 into their lives.  I was so impressed.  Thank you again Sunnie and Matt for allowing me to capture this very special time in your family’s live…it’s such an honor.
